Time’s Square Alliance (New Year’s Eve)

Posted by datonn on December 31st, 2008

Well, another year has come and gone. I got in another year working in custom cartography and optimizing imagery, I got to enjoy a whole lot of disc golf and my two daughters, and Barack Obama thankfully defeated Hillary Clinton and the John McCain en route to the White House. It was an amazing [...]

For those that know me, I absolutely LOVE music. I mean I L-O-V-E music! New country doesn’t do much for me, but other than that, if it has a bit of rhyme and rhythm, I’m enjoying it. When people ask me what kind of music I like, I never really know how to [...]

In keeping with my practices of surfing Google to see what other people are saying about image optimization techniques and tools, I came across a “Getawebsite” informational tutorial from Frieze Web Design in London about optimizing images.
A nice, simple tutorial…and what I like is them showing what three different image variations look like after being [...]

Back when I was a little boy…probably 7-8 years old, I always used to think I was “in this world, but not OF this world.” Translated? I didn’t really believe I was human…I thought I was dropped off here by a space ship or ??? and was supposed to do SOMETHING (only I didn’t [...]

Leap Seconds (.gif/.png)

So…how many of you reading this realized that 2008 was going to be JUST a bit longer than it normally would be? Instead of our typical 31,622,400 seconds this year (including 86,400 seconds for February 29), we ALSO are having one more second added to December 31…to correct for the Earth’s continually slowing rotation.
Now, [...]

Last.fm

Posted by datonn on December 16th, 2008

In my never-ending quest to find new and interesting music to add to my library of songs to enjoy singing a little to at my desk, in the car or in the shower, I’ve recently started experimenting a bit more with Last.fm. While I am still a gigantic fan, user and follower of Pandora.com, and [...]

Minnesota Marketplace for Entrepreneurs (.jpg/.png)

Posted by datonn on December 12th, 2008

The Secretary at our Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce forwarded an email today promoting an event that looks pretty interesting. Called the Minnesota Marketplace for Entrepreneurs, the event touts itself as: “an entrepreneurial-friendly event where attendees may access educational sessions, visit with business development service providers, showcase and view entrepreneurial activity and participate in business [...]

My Internet connection seemed to be running a bit slow tonight, so I decided to hop over to Speedtest.net to see how my upload and download speeds were looking. What is Speedtest.net? According to their web site: “Speedtest.net is a broadband connection analysis tool with a huge selection of geographically dispersed testing servers.” A very [...]

At the strong recommendation of Steve Williams at innersync, a GREAT guy who I have gotten to know as a vendor of interactive and CMS services at the past two HighEdWeb conferences, I decided to take the leap today and enter the big, wide world of Twitter.
Twitter, to me, is essentially micro-blogging about one’s day [...]

Boys go to Jupiter to get more stupider… (.jpg)

Posted by datonn on December 8th, 2008

“Boys go to Jupiter To get more stupider. Girls go to college. To get more knowledge.”
This little rhyme (and other similar variations of it) is one of my oldest daughter’s favorite ways to tease me…as the only “boy” in a house with three “girls” (my wife and two young daughters). She is incredibly, INCREDIBLY smart [...]
