Quantcast (.gif/.png)

Posted by datonn on February 29th, 2008

I’ve eluded to their site before in previous posts within this blog, but one of the sites I have referenced several times as I am trying to quantify the potential bandwidth savings associated with the optimization of imagery on one’s web site is Quantcast. Quantcast essentially gives you the ability to determine estimated traffic figures [...]

2008 OmniUpdate User Conference (.jpg/.png)

Posted by datonn on February 28th, 2008

I think I mentioned this before, but I am in the very-final stages of preparing my materials for a graphics optimization workshop that I will be presenting at the 2008 OmniUpdate User Conference in Palm Springs, California on Monday, March 3.
In case you are wondering who OmniUpdate is, I thought I would share a [...]

TV Guide (.gif/.png)

Posted by datonn on February 26th, 2008

There are thousands of great free web sites out there, but one of the more practical sites that I use on an almost nightly basis to see how I can maximize my TV-viewing pleasure is the TV Guide web site. By simply choosing one’s location, one can immediately see all of the TV listings for [...]

I couldn’t believe my eyes tonight when I noticed that, after roughly 85 postings since I launched this blog, I STILL hadn’t taken the time to talk about my absolute all-time favorite OpenSource software developer: Mozilla. The Firefox web browser and Thunderbird email application are absolutely outstanding…and my online browsing experiences and productivity have [...]

Technorati (.jpg/.png)

Posted by datonn on February 23rd, 2008

After Kyle James so-kindly posted a link to a WordPress plugin (Berri’s Technorati Reactions Plugin) in my Google Alerts blog posting the other day, I thought that might provide the perfect excuse to visit the Technorati web site and post a blog entry on the way in which they are using imagery on their site.
Technorati, [...]

Cabin fever is in full-swing here in my office today, so that can only mean one thing: I’ve got disc golf on my mind. I subsequently took some time this evening to check out a few of the disc golf web sites on the internet…getting ready to HOPEFULLY head out in the snow to play [...]

UsabilityWorks (.gif/.png)

Posted by datonn on February 21st, 2008

On the University Web Developers [uwebd] listserv this week, someone had publicized a higher education event on usability and user-centered design as it relates to web development. Sounded very interesting to me, so I took several minutes to review that conference’s schedule and speakers. I happened to notice that Dana E. Chisnell at [...]

I [heart] Google Alerts (.gif/.png)

Posted by datonn on February 20th, 2008

I’m not sure how many of you out there are making use of a recent service at Google called Google Alerts. However, if you aren’t yet familiar with this service, I have to say that I have found it to be incredibly valuable as a way to keep-tabs on what others are saying about me, [...]

WordPress 2.3.3 Upgrade and Tagging

Posted by datonn on February 19th, 2008

This information might not be terribly exciting to most folks out there. However, I wanted to take a few moments tonight to let everyone know that as of this evening, GraphicsOptimization has recently completed its upgrade to the new WordPress 2.3.3 platform. That update fixed a few security issues that potentially threatened the integrity [...]

Mindpower, Inc. (.jpg/.png)

Posted by datonn on February 17th, 2008

A mapping client of ours (mapformation’s) located in North Carolina recently passed along a referral for a marketing communications firm based in Atlanta, Georgia named Mindpower. Mindpower markets itself as a “smart marketing” firm and promotes its services to many of the same types of organizations that mapformation does…educational institutions, health care organizations, etc. I [...]
